Preparedness Planning for Business

Businesses today face a wide range of potential hazards that can disrupt operations and impact employees, customers, and the community. These include natural hazards such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes; health hazards like widespread illness or pandemics; human-caused hazards such as workplace accidents, acts of violence, or terrorism; and technology-related hazards, including power outages, system failures, or cyber incidents.

This page provides tools and resources to help businesses develop a comprehensive preparedness program that addresses the impact of multiple hazards. Using an “all-hazards” approach, these resources are aligned with the NNational Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1600 – Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs, an American National Standard recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

By planning ahead, businesses can strengthen resilience, protect employees, and ensure continuity of operations during and after an emergency. This page helps business owners and their leaders make a preparedness plan to get ready for these hazards.
